Memoirs: A Legacy For All
Linda Langton, of Langton’s International Agency Offers a New Service
Everyone has a story to tell, whether of heroic adventures, meteoric rises to the heights of business, or to the top of celebrity status. Some are personal tales for family and friends and while others are by A-list personalities and become New York Times bestsellers. Not matter what level of memoir it is the story of you, and deserves to be told.
Only, who has the time or even the talent to write such a story? In this age of Facebook, Twitter and other social media, snippets of life stories are revealed all the time, but where is the structure and where is the heart of the tale? No matter how hard you try, telling your story in 240 characters or 10-word memes will not cut it!
Writing is never easy and a memoir, the most personal form of writing, is especially difficult. Not only is it a commitment of time, resources, and energy, but it is also deeply personal and revealing. Not everyone can write down their thoughts and feelings, so they turn to ghostwriters who can take those emotions and ideas and put together a manuscript worthy of commercial publishers. However, finding the right ghost writer is a challenge. Often, the wrong writer is selected and the memoir goes off the rails and is unreadable and totally unsalable. The entire process becomes complicated and nerve-wracking.
We get it. You want your personal journey, your entrepreneurship success, to be ready for publication. You want the world to know you, but what are your best options to achieving what you want? How do you match up your very personal story with the right ghostwriter?
Enter Langton’s International Memoirs, a division of Langton’s International Agency under the guidance of stellar agent and consultant Linda Langton. http://www.langtonsinternational.com/memoir.html

Linda Langton, the head of this multifaceted agency, is originally from Manchester England. Before moving to New York, Linda was co-founder and publisher of the $50 million global book, greeting card and calendar company, The Ink Group. The company had offices in Australia, US, UK and NZ. The company licensed many notables including The Far Side, Recycled Paper Greetings, Star Wars, Monty Python, Tate Gallery, National Geographic, Sydney 2000 Olympics and won numerous international awards for business, design and innovation. She was inducted into the Australian Business Women Hall of Fame, was NSW Business Woman of the Year, and is a member of International Women’s Forum and Women’s Forum of New York. She is a founding and lifelong member of Chief Executive Women of Australia. For the past 15 years, Langton has built and managed a high-powered boutique agency with such stellar projects as Bonnie MacBird’s Sherlock Holmes best-selling books, which have been translated into 17 languages, and “Trumbo”, which is the companion book the inspiration for the award-winning movie starring Brian Cranston and Helen Mirren.
“I decided that with the changing world of publishing today, we need to have more options for authors, especially those writing personal memoirs or company histories,” Langton said in a recent interview “I sold 26 books last year alone. Some were from new authors, others from the ‘slush pile’ and many from referrals.”
Langton also noticed more inquiries for memoirs of high-profile and people with inspirational stories in the past several years. “I am looking for A-list memoirs as the foundation of our new division. Whether it’s a star-filled story from rags to riches, or the history of a super-successful company, I want to share these stories with the world. My talent is to set up a New York Times Best-selling ghostwriter to meet with my client and to arrange their way towards realizing their dream of creating a bestselling memoir.”
Langton’s success lies in her tenacity and her ability to foresee changes. “Over the past several years, we’ve (to out) expanded our services as an agency and developed new divisions to accommodate how the publishing industry has changed over the years,” Langton explains further. “I believe challenges are opportunities. Everybody went through changes in 2008 when e-books became popular as the industry changed. We had to rethink our company’s focus. Publishers didn’t provide editing and wanted books to be 99% ready for publications before they even read them. So, I started another company to work out where editors work with our authors in need of help. We sold 14 books last year which had been edited by our editing service. Now we are going to do the same with memoirs.”
“I love helping people. It’s in my DNA,” Langton adds, “It gives me great pleasure to take a first-time writer and help turn them into published authors as well as sell books from already established writers. And with this new memoir division, I can find ghostwriters, and match the right one for the right memoir. Whether a legacy, a success story, a business book or a book about an interesting life, I work with a number of ghostwriters, so we can match the perfect one to each memoir, and help with the follow-through.”
“My job as a consulting agent is to determine whether a book should be a commercial publication, or a private publication for family and friends or self-publication. This is highly dependent upon the author’s profile. Success sells and a high profile will be a commercial success as long as it’s well written and well edited. This is where the successful A-list ghostwriters will be matched with our clients.”
An entrepreneurial success story, or an A-list personality memoir for commercial publication takes on different skill sets from the ghostwriter, and she has several bestselling business ghostwriters in her group as well. “For high profile projects, whether A-list personalities or businesses, we vet the ghostwriter, match their profiles to the memoir needed and then shepherd the project through.”
Langton’s International Memoir will also provide ghostwriters for those individuals that wish to leave a legacy memoir for their family and friends. “I don’t want anyone that wants a memoir thinking that we won’t help them if they aren’t A-list individuals. For family or small company memoirs, we help find a different style of ghostwriter or editor who excels at personal stories. We will also assist with the finished memoir’s self-publication and uploading to Amazon or printed small runs. Unlike the A-list publication, which will be shopped to commercial publishers through the agency, these smaller memoirs are provided as a legacy on a more personal level.”
